Edwin Frieden
Founder, Forward Vector Group

My career has been built on leading through complexity; from military service and executive sales leadership to strategic decision-making and organizational problem-solving. The lessons I've learned weren't developed in a classroom; they were earned through real, and sometimes life threatening challenges. Now I help organizations turn those experiences into actionable strategies that inspire better leaders and stronger teams.

Master Control: Defeat Stress. Dominate the Mission.

Drawing from a combat deployment in Iraq — mortar attacks, medevac missions, and moments where calm was the only option — Edwin delivers a battle-tested framework for performing under pressure. Built around three controllables every person in the room can act on: Effort, Energy, and Attitude.

Tailored for: Sales teams, executive leadership, healthcare professionals, military associations, general conference audiences.

Book This Talk

What your audience walks away with

  • A 3-part framework for performing under pressure: Effort, Energy, and Attitude — and why all three must work together
  • The mindset shift that turns stress from a threat into a competitive advantage
  • Practical techniques for maintaining discipline and standards when conditions are at their worst
  • An understanding of what "controllable" actually means — and how to stop wasting energy on what isn't
  • The difference between effort that depletes and energy that compounds over a sustained period of adversity
  • Three specific challenges to act on before they leave the room
  • A new lens on what it means to complete the mission — regardless of the circumstances

Keynote · 30 or 60 minutes

Discipline & Consistency: How Great Teams Win

Individual talent doesn't guarantee team results. Edwin draws on lessons from leading F-16 maintenance crews and high-performing sales organizations to show why discipline is not restriction — it's freedom. Audiences leave with a concrete playbook for turning individual excellence into collective outcomes.

Tailored for: Sales teams, revenue organizations, operations leaders, executive teams, corporate leadership conferences.

Book This Talk

What your audience walks away with

  • A clear distinction between effort and discipline — and why high performers need both, not one or the other
  • Why "everyone hit their individual number" can still mean the team failed — and how to fix it
  • A reframe of discipline as the thing that unlocks success, not the thing that limits it
  • The concept of "unplanned success" — why fragile wins can't be scaled, and what to do instead
  • Practical tools for turning individual high performers into consistently aligned teams
  • Why process discipline exists to protect performance under pressure — not to slow people down
  • What fighter pilots do better than most sales teams — and the one thing your team can adopt immediately

Keynote · 30 or 60 minutes

From Wingman to the Sale: Trust as Tactical Advantage

When a fighter pilot straps into the cockpit, the one person they're trusting with their life isn't in the plane with them: their wingman. Trust isn't a feeling — it's a record, built through small, repeatable, observable actions long before the mission begins. This talk shows exactly how to build it.

Tailored for: Sales organizations, customer-facing teams, leadership teams focused on culture and retention.

Book This Talk

What your audience walks away with

  • A reframe of trust as a track record, not a personality trait — and why this distinction changes how you lead
  • The three building blocks of tactical trust: consistency under low stakes, saying the hard true thing early, and owning the miss completely
  • Why reliability in unremarkable moments is what gets tested when remarkable moments finally come
  • How high-trust teams move faster, cheaper, and with less friction than low-trust teams doing the same work
  • The real cost of "softening the truth" — and a practical alternative that strengthens relationships instead of protecting them
  • One concrete action to take this week that deposits into the trust account they'll need later

Keynote · 30 or 60 minutes · Best for VP / C-suite audiences

Sortie Lines: Why Good People Still Miss the Mission

Every shop performing well. Every individual hitting their number. And the mission still getting missed. This talk is built for leaders who have looked at a scorecard full of green numbers and still missed a company-wide goal — and couldn't figure out why.

Tailored for: C-suite, VPs, operations and sales leadership, cross-functional teams, strategic planning audiences.

Book This Talk

What your audience walks away with

  • A clear understanding of why individual performance and organizational alignment are not the same thing
  • The concept of "unplanned success" — fragile wins that can't be scaled because they weren't designed
  • Why alignment problems are invisible on an individual scorecard — and where to actually look for them
  • Three operational disciplines that close alignment gaps without adding bureaucracy
  • How to build shared visibility across the handoffs that most organizations leave to chance
  • A single diagnostic question leaders can ask this week to identify their own "sortie line" problem

Keynote · 30 or 60 minutes · Strong for general conference audiences

Two Careers, One Operating System

Sixteen years living two lives simultaneously — scaling a company from $20M to $250M+ as a VP, and rising from enlisted F-16 mechanic to Deputy Group Commander. Two completely different worlds. The exact same leadership principles underneath both.

Tailored for: General business conferences, association keynotes, leadership summits, cross-industry audiences.

Book This Talk

What your audience walks away with

  • The core operating system that transfers across radically different environments — and how to identify your own
  • Why competence earned before authority granted creates more durable leadership than title alone
  • How clarity is a form of respect — and why ambiguous expectations are a leadership failure, not a communication style
  • Why growth requires rebuilding yourself repeatedly, not just adding new skills on top of old ones
  • A framework for identifying the common thread across the different chapters of your own career
  • Permission to stop feeling like you're living two separate lives — and a way to see them as one consistent story

Sandstorms & Slow Quarters: Leading Through the Stretches Nobody Applauds

A four-day sandstorm grounded every mission. No action. No movement. Just forced stillness — and the slow, invisible erosion it caused. This talk is for leaders navigating flat quarters, hiring freezes, and the "nothing is wrong but nothing feels right" stretches that most leadership playbooks ignore entirely.

Tailored for: Sales and operations leaders, executives navigating market headwinds, HR and L&D audiences, general leadership conferences.

Book This Talk

What your audience walks away with

  • Why forced stillness is often more dangerous to a team than acute crisis — and what to do about it
  • The four-stage erosion pattern that plays out in every team during an extended slow stretch
  • Three specific actions that separate the teams that come out sharper from the ones that take months to find their rhythm again
  • Why maintaining standards during a slow period is the most underrated form of leadership investment
  • A re-entry framework: how to bring your team back to full speed without scrambling to restart from scratch
  • The one question every leader should ask themselves during the next flat stretch — before the mission resumes

Strategic Advisory & Consulting

The same principles that drive high-impact keynotes also drive high-impact organizations. Forward Vector Group offers strategic consulting engagements for growing companies that need more than a speech — they need a trusted advisor who has actually built teams, scaled revenue, and led through complexity at the executive level.

With firsthand experience growing a company from $20M to over $250M in revenue as a Vice President, and leading complex organizations under pressure as a military officer, Edwin brings an operational credibility to consulting that most advisory firms can't offer.

Engagements are customized to your organization's specific stage, challenges, and goals. Every engagement starts with a frank conversation about where you are, where you want to be, and what's actually standing in the way.

The Full Picture

My career has been defined by one simple belief: great organizations are built by people who are willing to continuously learn, adapt, and lead through change.

Professionally, I began as an intern with a company that specialized in the fire and life safety industry. Like many young professionals, I started by learning the fundamentals and taking on whatever challenges came my way. Over the next sixteen years, I had the opportunity to grow alongside the organization, advancing through leadership roles until ultimately serving as Vice President. During that time, I helped lead the company through an extraordinary period of growth, expanding from approximately $20 million in annual revenue to more than $250 million. That experience provided firsthand lessons in scaling organizations, developing leaders, managing change, and making strategic decisions in rapidly evolving environments.

At the same time, I was building a military career that reinforced many of those same principles. Beginning my career enlisted as an F-16 Fuel system mechanic, I learned the value of discipline, accountability, and service before progressively assuming greater leadership responsibilities. Through years of commitment and professional development, I advanced to become the Deputy Group Commander at the Maintenance Group; responsible for helping lead a complex organization and supporting a mission where teamwork, communication, and sound decision-making are critical to success.

These two careers — one in the private sector and one in military service — have given me a unique perspective on leadership. I've experienced what it means to build teams from the ground up, navigate uncertainty, balance competing priorities, and make decisions when the stakes are high. I've also learned that the best leaders are not simply those with authority, but those who can inspire trust, create clarity, and empower others to succeed.

Today, I bring those lessons to audiences across all industries, where I combine practical experience with actionable strategies. Rather than focusing on theory alone, I share real stories, hard-earned insights, and proven principles that help individuals and organizations improve leadership, embrace innovation, and create lasting momentum.

Whether speaking to executives, emerging leaders, technical professionals, or industry associations, my goal is the same: to challenge people to think differently, lead intentionally, and move their organizations forward with purpose.
